BISHOP ELECTION LETTERS

Here are a few questions before you read further:

  • What is the reason for this circular?
  • What are the charges and accusations made against this candidate? Where are those letters?
  • Why did the leadership rejecte outright, the first of the three candidates, who had the highest recommendations from people?
  • Why the present leadership/chair is interested to bring in a candidate of his choice against all written accusations and charges made, scrutinized and found correct?!
  • Why are the representatives of church parishes and council members approving the immoral, personal vested interests of the bishops who are only concerned about chairs, tenures and accumulation of power and properties?
  • Where is democracy", where are morality, Biblical mandates, Scriptural standards and spirituality?
  • If Bishops and chairs are evil, parties of evil conduct , money mongers, how will the Church and believers survive ?
  • Are leaderships made to lead and buildup people or divide them destruct?_____________________
At the end you will find a request in 4 pages from a Rtd Bishop to the Church Council, with a tricky way of creating a new allegation to the JMBC what all charges raised to a Bishop candidate, with a solemn view to confuse people and divert the attention. He is pleading to the council to give him another chance to represent and address the council!
(The date of the letter is mentioned as March 1st !!)

Retired Bishop's Request to Council to give him another chance!

Rev. Abraham Chacko, the candidate, proposed by people, with no complain or allegation of whatsoever, was called to Tiruvalla and pressed by a big team of people under the leadership of the presiding bishop and his allies (who are committed to bring in another candidate subject to written allegations with evidence that even the scrutinizing committee and the council found to be true). Rev. Chacko have been forced to withdraw his candidature !!!! This happened on March 16th Saturday evening and this letter which was sent on 18th Monday by 4 pm to the council members is dated as on 16th !!!

  1. The first time I heard that Rev. Dr. Sunny C John is applying to be a candidate for the upcoming bishop election, I felt very disheartened and disappointed. I don't know him personally and never knwk the numerous allegstioal and his aristocratic style of leadership.

The only reason I had was simply his style of teaching. He was the main speaker at one of our youth camps in Keezhilam centre. I don't exactly remember the theme of the camp, not because I wasn't interested, but the theme was simply not exposed and taught enough. Rev. SCJ would start with something but always ended propogating prosperity theology. That is the only camp that has not had an impact in my personal life.

Now reading all these allegations, responses and letters, it's disappointing to see how our church has scooped down from what our forefathers had stood for. The lack of a minimum decency to withdraw the application shows how arrogant and self centred person he is. It shows his hunger for power and proves that he would go to any extent to get there. After our church has dealt with Year of Witnessing, Year of Prayer, Year of Word, Year of Reconciliation, Year of Mercy and Year of Repentance, it's very interesting how leaders are not able to practice it in their lives and be an example to us the Youths. They justify all their actions and if or when questioned, they simply overrule the questions and bring out justifications to prove they are right.

As a youth who would like to see this church not perish, I hope and pray that God would continue to bless this church with a good leadership. Otherwise we will come into a situation which we had years ago.

    1. Anyone who keenly and closely observe the pathetic situation of our leadership, it is not Rev SCJ to be blamed but his godfather who is pushing him to the power from behind the screen in continuation with the plot conceived years ago! In due course we have to throw light to all the other evil prevailing there in the administration and leadership.

    2. If it is the plot set by the mentor or godfather, it is the mentee's responsibility to cross check with the Word and find out whether the instructions given are in accordance with it. That is the role and responsibility of a mentee. I have and continue to question my mentors when I see their words or messages contradicting their actions. If the mentor is not a good example, and the mentee continues to follow him, it is only like the parable Jesus has said, the blind cannot lead the blind, both will fall into a ditch.

Well considering the present scenario, my best guess would be they are already in the ditch.

    3. Thank you for the comments. As rightly said, the blind cannot lead. Anyone driven for money or power is also fall into ditch of other things too as we can see and observe.

  2. I don't think our Church leadership was ever interested in what the members thought. For years, I tried to point out things that I felt was against the Bible. I have attended many Sunday School and Youth's camp. And always before the Q&A session starts, some Achen would appear and make a statement that we are not supposed to ask any controversial questions.

The meaning of word Bishop is "Overseer". That's it. Now, our Bishops are trying to be "Thirumeni's".Someone close to these Bishops should remind them the meanings of these words. I have heard Cherian Bishop telling people not to call him "Thirumeni". But now, the current Bishops call each other "Thirumeni". If these are the things we want to follow, why did we even leave Marthoma?

The solution I found for my satisfaction was to only support my parish financially and pay a minimal amount for any Center activities.

Evangelical Church is only 50 years old. Give it some time. Gradually, the leadership will change the vision our forefathers had. After all, as Wild Voice wrote"Evil Prevails".

    1. Evangelical church is 60+ years old, which is the internationally accepted age for 2 generations to pass. As history has proved many times, it take 2 generations time for deviations and misinterpretations to creep in which ultimately dilutes the motive or mission that a group of people set out to fulfill. This is not applicable to just Christian organisations, if you do a little bit of research you can see that this is the story in every case, be it religious, politics or social.

My cry is that it has happened to our church too, which should have had the least of probabilities. Only God can turn this around now. Let us pray and work towards that.

    2. We really need to pray earnestly for the leaders and those who are trying to divide and tarnish by all means that they will understand their folly the sooner.

Are we really in need of more bishop(s) ? Are we in a position to maintain such a big administration?

    1. Appreciate your comment. Reformation normally last not more than 50 years. Revival can not happen with in unless there is repentance. Every movement, social or spiritual have a life cycle. Only spiritual leaders can move them to a next level or cycle, lest, it dies of and exist nominally. Our leaders after the period of Bishop T C Cherisn are concerned only like the present leadership of our country.

  4. In our culture..... if you tell, "there is fire in the ship", the captain should search for the smoke and do the needful to put of the fire. Instead if he is wasting his time to find out who said said it instead of what is said, it will be too late
Now that's what exactly happening ! "Voice in the wilderness" (wild voice) will only shout; repenting and bearing fruit is not in his hand. Rather if you are waiting for a chance to devour, kill or behead, it will only become a wild fire.

  5. I agree, Bishop TC Cherian was the last selfless leader. Do we really need more Bishops now? Our total members are less than many other denominations single parish.

    2. We do need at least one more bishop now as one person alone wont be able to handle the entire administration processes. Also, if not now, in the near future we would have to go through these procedures again. Its best to get it over with now, hopefully we could have had a more decent way of choosing candidates and scrutinizing them. Election is just 2 days away now. Let's pray and hope for the best.
